Rich & Beth: Covered Outdoor Living & Kitchen
Rich and Beth had already invested in their outdoor space, but it wasn’t functioning as a true extension of their home. While the patio and surrounding landscape offered a strong foundation, the area lacked protection from the elements and a clear sense of structure. Without consistent cover, the space was difficult to use comfortably throughout the year, and the layout didn’t fully support how they wanted to entertain or relax.
They envisioned an outdoor living area that felt purposeful and complete, one that could accommodate cooking, gathering, and lounging in a single, cohesive environment. The goal was not just to add coverage, but to create a well-designed space that felt intentional, comfortable, and integrated with the home’s existing architecture.

Design & Planning
Using our Dream → Design → Build process, we began by understanding how Rich and Beth wanted to use the space day to day, as well as how they envisioned hosting friends and family. From there, our design team developed a plan centered around structure, flow, and long-term usability.
The design included a large, custom covered structure that provides full protection while maintaining open sightlines to the surrounding landscape. The layout was carefully planned to define distinct zones, cooking, dining, and lounging, without making the space feel segmented or closed in.
Architectural details, materials, and finishes were selected to complement the home’s exterior, ensuring the new addition felt cohesive rather than separate. Detailed 3D renderings allowed Rich and Beth to visualize the space before construction began and make confident decisions around scale, layout, and functionality.

The Build
Construction began in mid-February and continued through early May, requiring careful coordination across multiple trades. The project involved structural framing, roofing, stonework, electrical, and finish carpentry, all executed with close attention to detail.
The covered structure features a finished ceiling with integrated lighting and ceiling fans, allowing the space to remain comfortable in a range of weather conditions. A custom stone fireplace was built as a central focal point, anchoring the seating area and adding warmth and visual balance to the space.
The outdoor kitchen was designed for both everyday use and entertaining, featuring built-in grills, refrigeration, ample counter space, and generous storage. Every element was positioned to support ease of movement and natural flow between cooking, serving, and gathering areas.
Throughout the build, the focus remained on craftsmanship and precision, ensuring that each component worked together seamlessly and that the finished space felt polished and permanent.

The Result
The completed outdoor living area transformed Rich and Beth’s backyard into a fully realized extension of their home. The covered structure now allows the space to be used comfortably throughout multiple seasons, while the defined zones make it easy to transition from cooking to dining to relaxing.
What was once an outdoor area with limitations is now a cohesive, functional environment designed for everyday enjoyment and effortless entertaining. The new space not only enhances how Rich and Beth use their home, but also adds lasting value through thoughtful design and quality construction.
